Ipsy Glam Bag One Month Re-Review – November 2017

It’s been about a month since I got my November ipsy glam bag, so I thought I would return to the products and see how I feel about them now that I have had the opportunity to use them for longer. You can read my original first impressions post here.

Oribe Hair Care Gold Lust Dry Shampoo ($22)

Unfortunately, this continues to be useless to me. I have sprayed it once and not touched it since then. This one is my fault for not changing my beauty preferences – I know nothing about the product quality but it’s not like ipsy knew I shaved my head.

Colourpop Cosmetics Pressed Powder Shadow in Paper Tiger ($4)

I just…haven’t touched this. It’s not a bad product; it’s just as good as the other Colourpop pressed shadows from what I can see in the swatch, but the color …I blame this one on ipsy and not on the product.

‘Tini Beauty Barfly Highlighter in Candlelit ($12)

In terms of my bag, this was super exciting, because I love highlighters. In terms of product, well, it’s a highlighter. It stays on well and blends out beautifully into a light highlight. However, if you want a strong highlight you have to put on a lot of product and as a cream, it starts to feel greasy. If you are okay with the light highlight, this is a good product that remains on and does not feel greasy or heavy with the first application.

Lime Crime Diamond Crushers in Lit (Full-Size $18)

This lip looks so amazingly beautiful on. It has a beautiful bright truly gold metallic shimmer. It dries down so it doesn’t transfer, but it doesn’t feel dry at all. I wore it without anything under it, but I would suggest a neutral pink on your lips under this to help it pop more.

Tarte Amazonian Clas 12 Hour Blush in Feisty (Full-Size $29)

Note: I can’t find this color online right now.

I reach for this all the time now that I have it. The color is good for my complexion and works well with a lot of looks because of how neutral it is. It stays on all day without rubbing off at all and it goes on light but buildable in a way that gives a lot of control.

Bonus: Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara (Full-Size $27.50)

To be honest, I have been reaching for my newly purchased drugstore mascara more than this for one simple reason; this stuff deposits so much product. I can feel wetness on my eyelashes when I put it on and I really just don’t like that sensation. It is a good mascara, but at a high price like that smaller issues become more serious problems. If the sensation bothers me that much, it’s not really worth it. That said, that is a personal problem and the quality of the product is good. It stays on all day and makes your lashes thick and very black.

The Verdict

This bag turned out not to be a huge hit for me. Everything was good enough. The blush was great, I love getting highlighters no matter what, and the Lime Crime lip is so unique and cool. All the products that I could use (aka everything but the dry shampoo) were good quality, but some of them I just don’t reach for.

I hope that this was helpful to you. If you would like me to continue to revisit my bags and give a full review of the products after about a month of use, be sure to let me know down in the comments!

Daily Makeup Fall 2017

Hello all! Today I wanted to share with you what makeup has been part of my daily routine for the fall months! Let’s get to it!

elf Mineral Eyeshadow Primer (No Longer Available)

I do my eyes first every time. This is something that was pretty popular a while back and at least to me seems to have fallen out of fashion, but it’s how I prefer to do things, particularly if I don’t know how much fallout a palette or eyeshadow has. I got this primer a while ago and it is no longer available, which isn’t too much of a disappointment to me as I find it lackluster; it is kind of greasy and I haven’t seen a notable improvement in the longevity of my eyeshadows when I use this.

Colourpop I Think I Love You Pressed Powder Palette ($16)

As you can see in this blog post, I got this palette alongside the Yes, Please! palette not too long back and since I’ve gotten the set, this one has become my go to. It has a lot of neutral and soft-pink options while also having some options for a bit of pop, so it has been good for me on a day-to-day basis. The color payoff and the general quality of the shadows is good here.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Liner in Perversion (Full-Size $20)

The quality of this eyeliner is absolutely unbelievable; I got it in my November 2017 ipsy bag and I fell in love with it. It is pretty soft and has crumbled on my eye before when I sharpen too much. The product also seems to disappear – I have to continuously sharpen this – but I love it so much that it doesn’t bother me besides meaning I’m going to have to buy it sooner.

Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Volume Mascara (Full-Size $27.50)

This was a bonus I got from ipsy and it has been my go-to simply because I ran out of other mascara. That said, the quality is good. It stays on, it’s waterproof, and it is definitely very black. It hasn’t blown my mind enough to be worth the price, but I am also someone who has never had a mascara I love so I normally choose by the price.

elf Tone Adjusting Primer ($6)

I honestly hate this stuff. It is truly and honestly terrible. It feels awful and greasy and slippery on the skin, and I don’t enjoy it at all. Why have I used it everyday? An impulse to use primer combined with the fact that I don’t have any other primer. Gonna have to buy one of those, because I really dislike this.

Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Green ($5.82)

I use everyday especially this fall as my breakouts become fairly bad out of nowhere (perhaps the stress of starting grad school?). It covers them up really nice. It’s very green, but once blended in a bit with a beauty blender it works under concealer and foundation to really kill those red spots.

NYX Dark Circle Concealer in Fair ($6)

This thing uterally destroys my dark circles. And my circles are bad. Living that grad student life is really making them a task to deal with, and this stuff deals with it. The finish isn’t great, which is why I prefer it under another concealer and my foundation – it shows way to shiny on its own. But colorwise, it really does the job.

L’Oreal True Match Concealer in C123 ($8.95)

This is the cool-light shade of the concealer to match the foundation colors – all the concealers cover three of the foundations. This concealer works good enough. There is some creasing under the eyes but not a noticeable amount. If you have dry undereyes or fine lines it will settle in. However, it does its job and covers problem spots up well.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation in C2 ($10.95)

This foundation is pretty good; it feels good on the skin, it’s medium to full coverage and it’s buildable if you give it a second to dry down before trying to build it up. It lasts okay throughout the day: not amazing, but not bad at all. This has been my go to foundation for a while and I’ve been using it daily because I have it and it preforms well enough, but I’m looking forward to trying new foundations in the coming months.

elf High Definition Undereye Setting Powder ($3)

Alright, first thing’s first – this does have glitter in it. Somewhat noticeable glitter. However, it really does set the undereyes well, and it brightens them right up. So long as you are okay with some glitter, it’s a great price and a good product.

NYX Brow Pencil in Light Brown ($4.75)

Way back when I got this eyebrow pencil it wasn’t labeled any more than “eyebrow pencil” because NYX had just released it as one of their first. It has worked for me since then. The pencil is a good balance of soft and hard, and it is a twist up rather than one that needs to be sharpened, which I prefer. The brush works better for me than a spoolie when it comes to fixing up my brows. The color is a good match for my dark blonde hair.

Ciate Bamboo Bronzer in Palm Island (Full-Size $28)

I’ve been loving this bronzer. If you asked me what my favorite bronzer is I would say Tarte Amazonian Clay. And yet, lately, this is the only thing I reach for. I got it in an ipsy bag and it stayed unused for a while, until recently, when I just haven’t been able to put it down. It’s a cool bronzer, but it still really warms up the face, and it’s perfect for me being as pale as I am, and during the fall/winter season when less of a tan looks a lot more natural.

elf Mineral Blush in Jetsetter (No Longer Available)

This blush is honestly so good to me, so afforadable when I bought it, and such a beautiful color that I am almost devastated that it is no longer available. I love this blush so much I would have told you to buy it right now. This color is a beautiful light mauve that looks cool and classic on my skin, and goes on beautifully light yet buildable.

Colourpop Super Shock Highlighter in Flexitarian ($8)

These Colourpop highlighters are so amazing. The highlight goes on blinding with one swipe so if you are looking for natural be careful. I, however, am a crazy person with highlighter and I want to shine like a disco ball. The color is absolutely amazing in this highlighter, I bought it the second it came out because of how much I loved it and I have not put it down since.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Rose (Full-Size $20)

This lipstick…I don’t know what to say. Do I adore it? No. Is it amazing? Nope. Do I keep using it? Yup. It’s a lightweight formula. It is pretty drying, though that’s not something that bother me much. I think I keep going back to it for the color. It’s a dusty rose that errs on the side of warmth more than most dusty rose’s, and it goes really well with my skin tone. It is natural enough to pair with basically any eye look and when I don’t want to think about my lip, I grab this.

Wet n Wild Mattifying Powder ($4.99)

Honestly, I don’t even know if this stuff works. Let me rephrase. This definitely powders down my makeup that still feels wet when I’m done with it. I’m just not sure if as a setting powder it extends the life at all. However, at the price point, I’m not asking that much of it besides simple setting.

Colourpop Green Aventurine Setting Spray ($6)

This stuff….well, it smells good, it’s kept my makeup actually on my face, so it’s doing it’s job. Really, my main problem with this is the nozzle. The nozzle is garbage if I’m being honest. It doesn’t spritz you, it showers you. You have to hold this pretty far away to make sure that you don’t get huge wet spots, and it needs to be brushed in afterward. However, it’s a good price, it works, and I’m a ho for some crystal healing.

I hope you guys enjoyed seeing what I use. Some of it is habit, some of it is true love, but regardless next season will certainly look different. Let me know in the comments what some of your go-to products have been and I may try them out! We’ll see next season 🙂

Ipsy Glam Bag Review – November 17

I get ipsy’s Glam Bag monthly subscription and honestly, it is one of the most exciting things each month for me.

If you prefer a video, you can watch me below.

This month’s theme was “All You”, and it’s all about being yourself and lifting up others so that they can be themselves. It’s a great theme!

The bag this month was actually two options. The other was a bronze and yellow, which I preferred because I’m all about that mustard color, but hey, this is cute too.

Oribe Hair Care Gold Lust Dry Shampoo ($22)

Okay, I usually pay $8 or under for a full-size bottle of dry shampoo. Granted, that usually leaves a ton of icky residue in my hair and this stuff doesn’t but….holy cow at this price. I’m always impressed when ipsy hits my $10 investment on the first product. That said, I may have to update my preferences, as my head is currently shaved.

Colourpop Cosmetics Pressed Powder Shadow in Paper Tiger ($5)

It’s no secret that I’m in love with Colourpop and everything they do. This is my first single from them, but I recently got to experience their pressed shadow palettes, and this lives up to those: good color payoff and a buttery texture.

‘Tini Beauty Barfly Highlighter in Candlelit ($12)

Highlighter, yeeeeees. I’m obsessed with highlighter. I would bathe in it if I could. Honestly, I’m a crazy person. So I’m always so happy when ipsy gives me one. This one is a great silver pink that gives a fun frosty look that I think will be great for the holidays. It’s stick form, but isn’t greasy like other sticks I’ve had in the past.

I’m sorry my swatch is barely visible, highlighters can be so hard, but you can see a video of it on my Instagram.

Lime Crime Diamond Crushers in Lit ($18 for full-size)

This thing is literally the most gorgeous. I pulled it out of the bag and just stared at the packaging for a good five minutes. The top is a sparkly pink, and the product looks great in the bottle. It swatches a nice pink with gold reflection, and it goes on full-coverage, so it works like a lipstick, not a topper.

Tarte Amazonian Clas 12 Hour Blush in Feisty ($29)

Okay holy, frickin’, shit. Peep my phone case in this picture. I didn’t notice that until I started writing this post but my God I am keeping it. (Yes, that is Gudetama).

Anyway, Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Bronzer was the first bronzer I actually liked or got attached to, and in fact the first thing ipsy ever sent me that I become an avid fan of. So this blush, with a similar formulation, is totally awesome, and it’s a very wearable pink that verges on peachy but doesn’t make it there.

Bonus: Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara (Full-size $27.50)

This was honestly just….hilarious to me when I pulled it from the bag. It’s my own fault for not paying attention but when I selected it as one of my ipsy point-buys, I was anticipating getting a full-size mascara. So this was impressively tiny.

That said, it is awesomely black and is a great replacement for the dying tube of mascara I was using.

The Verdict

ipsy did a good job this time. I really liked most of the product and my only real complaint is that dry shampoo is kind of useless to me right now, but that’s my own fault for not updating my profile. Paper Tiger isn’t an amazing color, but I did choose “adventurous” for my eye shades, so that’s probably why I got it instead of the nice pink that was offered and honestly, I have enough pink eyeshadow for a lifetime. 4.5/5 stars this month, ipsy.
